We love Monstera, and we think you will too. It’s the perfect combination of tropical, funky, and decorative. Today I’m putting the spotlight on ten Monstera plant varieties you might never have heard of…well, that means there’s a chance you may have heard of one or two maybe? Anyway, feast your eyes on these gorgeous houseplants below!

We’ve put together a list of our top 10 Monstera plant varieties that we need in our lives.

Monstera Deliciosa

Monstera Deliciosa

I love the Monstera Deliciosa. I mean, I really love this native South American species of Monstera –it’s a big deal.

Monstera Deliciosa is our favorite variety of Monstera. It has those big, gorgeous holey leaves that are so popular in nurseries and printed home decor right now. This is the most common variety of monstera we all know and love, and mostly what you’ll find when you go plant shopping.

Monstera deliciosa, the split-leaf philodendron or Swiss cheese plant, is a tropical plant often kept as a houseplant. This easy-to-grow climbing evergreen can be found in many designer spaces for its “wow” factor. Monstera deliciosa makes a statement with its glossy, heart-shaped split leaves. Growing fast, about 1 to 2 feet a year; it takes about three years to have a full-grown monstera.

It is hardy to USDA Zones 10 and 11 but can be grown outdoors in U.S. Department of Agriculture hardiness zones 9 through 12. However, if you want to grow it outside, make sure you bring it inside when temperatures dip below 40 degrees F. If left outside during winter months when temperatures drop below freezing point, the plant will die completely until springtime when new growth emerges from the ground up or from an existing stem that did not freeze over the winter season during the dormancy period.

The plant does best in bright indirect sunlight but can tolerate low light conditions such as windowless rooms in your home or office space where most plants would not survive without being watered daily because this species requires less water than other

Monstera Borsigniana

If you’re looking to add some tropical flair to your home, consider getting a Monstera Borsigniana. This plant is a variation of deliciosa and might sell under the same name because it’s hard to distinguish between the two when they’re young. One way to tell is to look at the stem: deliciosas tend to ruffle, pucker, or form cute little bumps where the leaf attaches to the stem, but borsigniana does not. Borsigniana is also smaller and grows faster than deliciosa. Mature plants usually form two neat rows of holes/slits instead of growing holes in a more willy-nilly style like deliciosa.

If you do end up with one of these instead of a deliciosa, never fear! It can grow just as tall, almost as big, and a bit faster, and it’s still a stunning addition to your home.

Monstera Variegata

If you’re looking for a new addition to your home that’s sure to be a conversation starter, look no further than the variegated monstera.

Variegated monsteras aren’t separate plants; they’re simply plants with white or cream-colored leaves. Sometimes these plants even look painted with white paint. I personally love them!

The name “variegated” refers to plants that are patterned with white or cream color as well as green. These plants tend to be harder to find and are therefore much more expensive.

Many of the varieties on this list also come in a variegated form if you’re lucky enough to find them!

Monstera Adansonii

Monstera Adansonii is a bit smaller than the deliciosa, but the holes are still quite large! The holes tend to take up about 50% of the leaf.

These are fairly easy to find, but they’re also mislabeled as monstera obliqua (but true obliqua are extremely rare, so you can be assured that if you see this label in a nursery, you’re looking at a monstera adansonii). Adansonii also tends to have thicker, rougher leaves than obliqua.

If you are looking for a smaller plant with even more impressive leaves than the deliciosa, this is your best bet.

Monstera Pinnatipartita

These guys have very large, glossy leaves, but tend to grow slits, rather than holes, that go to the edge of the leaf. The leaf stems are stiff and sturdy and they have a gorgeous emerald-green color. These are a little harder to find, but you can usually source one or two online.

The Monstera Pinnatipartita is an excellent choice for your home or office if you’re looking for a plant that’s easy to care for and doesn’t need much sunlight.

Monstera Dubia

Monstera dubia is the perfect houseplant for lovers of lush, green foliage.

This monstera variety is characterized by small, heart-shaped leaves with both dark and light green coloration. It’s not variegated per se, but approaching it. It grows like a vine with shorter stems and leaves that grow closer to whatever the plant is climbing.

These are tricky to find, but if you do see one, snatch it up! This plant will quickly become one of your favorites—and make all your friends jealous when they come over.

Monstera Siltepecana

Monstera Siltepecana is a gorgeous monstera that you’ll want to add to your collection.

These monstera varieties have large, teardrop-shaped leaves with smaller holes concentrated around the central vein. The amount of dark and light green hues on this plant varies depending on how much sunlight it receives but usually appears lighter than other monsteras. These are harder to find, but if you can get your hands on one, it will be worth the effort!

Monstera Obliqua

Monstera Obliqua is a stunning plant that you won’t find in any nursery.

These monstera plant varieties are also very delicate and have only been spotted 17 times in their natural habitat (and not even in the wild). That makes it a scarce plant you might have to catch at a botanic garden if you’re lucky enough to spot it.

The leaves have holes rather than being made up entirely of leaf material, and those holes can take up 90% of each leaf! The leaves tend to be paper-thin, which makes this a very delicate plant.

Mini Monstera

The plant is not a true monstera but looks like a small monstera variant with large leaf holes on deep green foliage. It is one of the best Types of Monstera you can grow!

The Mini Monstera is a dwarf variety of monstera deliciosa, with leaves that are smaller than regular monsteras and more regularly shaped. The leaves are thick, glossy, and dark green. They have an irregular shape with deep holes in them.

Monstera epipremnoides ‘Esqueleto’

Monstera Esqueleto is a rare, amazing plant. It’s one of the most fascinating species in the Monstera genus.

In its younger stages, Monstera Esqueleto looks like a normal Monstera Adansonii. But wait—it gets better!

As it matures, Monstera Esqueleto goes through a crazy kind of transformation. The leaves tend to perforate much more, giving them an almost skeleton-like appearance. They’re also much larger than those of the young plants and have a beautiful marbling pattern throughout their dark green coloration.

Monstera plant varieties make for breathtaking tabletop décor in any indoor space. They are a unique option for adding the tropics to your home. We hope that you have enjoyed our top 10 Monstera varieties, and will explore our other content as well. How To Care For A Monstera Plant In The Bedroom

Last April, I was just scrolling through the internet to find some aesthetic room design ideas and I got curious because most of the ideas that keep getting my attention is they have a monstera plant or any indoor plant in their bedroom.

I know that indoor plants can help you relax and clear your mind but I never thought it could be this beautiful. So, I started looking for more of these plants and ended up seeing so many beautiful rooms with monstera plants inside.

I’ve always been a fan of plants, but monstera plants are my favorite. They’re just so unique! And I always thought they’d look amazing in my bedroom. But before I brought one home, I did some research—and turns out that monstera plants need pretty specific conditions to thrive.

They need a lot of light—but not direct sunlight for too long at once—and they need to be kept away from drafts and heaters. They also love humidity, so if you live in a dry climate like me (or even if you don’t), you’ll want to invest in a humidifier.

Finally, where do you put them? Monstera plants grow upward and outwards rather than hanging down as other plants do—so they’re best suited for hanging baskets or on elevated surfaces near windows where they’ll get lots of natural light throughout the day.

After doing all this research, I decided that bringing home a monstera would be worth the effort—and now that it’s here, it’s even more beautiful than I expected!

Most people will tell you that it can be difficult to grow, but with a little extra care, you can have a happy and healthy monstera in your bedroom.

Some Tips on Growing your Monstera in your room.

To achieve this, you need to give them extra care. Let me give you a checklist to achieve a healthy and happy monstera in your room:

  1. Place the monstera in an area with plenty of light but not direct sunlight (they prefer indirect light).
  2. Water the plant when it starts to dry out – don’t let it get too dry or else the leaves will start showing brown spots on them which will eventually kill the plant if left untreated for too long!
  3. Fertilize once every three weeks with an indoor plant fertilizer (this will help keep them healthy and green!)
  4. Don’t overwater your monsteras – they are prone to root rot if left sitting in water for too long so make sure that you only water them when necessary!

And that’s the key to growing a monstera in your room—make sure you provide some light and let it find its way. The more care and attention you give it, the bigger it will get. And once it starts growing, there’s no stopping it—just sit back and enjoy watching your monstera in your room reach new heights!

Recently I got curious if monstera can grow in water. So, I researched it on the internet and got some answers. Let me share about it.

We know that monstera is a tropical plant native to Central America. The place of its origin lets us know that it thrives in a warm and humid environment.

So, If monstera plants love to thrive in a warm and humid environment, How come they will live in water?

So, Monstera Can Grow in Water?

Yes, you can. However, it will take longer than if you had grown it in soil. You will have to monitor the level of water carefully and you will likely have to add more as time goes by.

Are you planning to grow your monstera in water?

If so maybe you have your monstera cutting, right? Because it’s a good start to put your monstera cutting in water. It will help to get a head start on rooting your monstera.

But if you do this, you have to be careful about the number of nutrients that will be available to your monstera. It’s a big difference in the nutrients that soil can give.

REMEMBER that growing monstera in water is slower than growing your monstera in soil.

In most cases, Monstera cuttings start to grow roots within just a couple of weeks of being placed in a jar of water. A new leaf or two will usually follow shortly after if the plant is getting ample light.

Usually, you’ll see a pattern where the plant continues to put out new leaves, but each time that new growth emerges, an older/larger leaf drops off. Even though it generates new growth, the plant stays the same size.

Monstera in Water

How Long?

I’m sure you have already wondered if you could grow a Monstera growing in water for a long-time or how long can monstera lives in water.

If so, you are not alone. Most Monstera owners have tried propagating a stem in water, but have you ever wondered if you could just leave a Monstera deliciosa growing in water long-term?

It’s hard to tell how long it will last monstera grow in water. Maybe some of the monstera owners their monstera plant can grow in the water forever but most of the monstera owners observe that their monstera cuttings start to show signs of stress after 2 to 3 years of growing in water.

Growing a monstera in water can be quite a task, but with determination and perseverance, you will manage to do so.

LEARN HERE HOW TO MAKE A DIY MOSS POLE FOR YOUR MONSTERA.

Moss Pole for Monstera Plant is really worth it they are the best companions.

One of the beautiful plants is the Monstera plant. It’s not just that they have some unique badass-looking leaves that make your friends or family say, “Oh my gosh, what kind of plant is this?!” or “Where can I get one of these plants?”.

But did you know that monstera plants are climbing plants? Yes, you’ve read it right. They are climbing plants and they have aerial roots to attach themselves to other trees in the rainforest and climb upward toward the light.

So, If you’re thinking about bringing a monstera into your home or you already have one you might be wondering what kind of plant climbing structure you should use.

That’s a great question, and we’re here to help!

Some monstera owners opt for a trellis, a wall, or even an indoor tree, but most monstera owners go for a moss pole instead.

So, what is a moss pole? Moss poles are just what they sound like they are sturdy sticks or poles coated with moss.

Moss pole is a great way to build and support plants that need a trellis to sprawl along or climb. These poles mimic the texture of moist, mossy bark and provide physical support for your plants to grow aerial roots and climb upward. Moss poles also offer a way to train widely growing plants into an upright narrow form to fit better in small spaces.

You can buy moss poles at garden stores but they are expensive and you may want to create your own. It’s easy and affordable to make your own moss pole, and in this article, I’m going to show you how.

Materials you’ll need

  • A stake of your desired height and width (bamboo, PVC pipe, wooden dowel, or bamboo chopsticks work well)
  • Sphagnum moss
  • String, fishing line, twine, or something else to tie it with
  • Scissors
  • Large bowl or tray filled with water
  • Gloves (optional)

Once you gather your materials, find a place outside or somewhere indoors where you can make a mess—because this can get a little messy!

Steps on Making a Moss Pole

Step 1: Soak the moss.

Put your moss in the bowl or tray with water and allow it to soak for about 15-20 minutes.

Step 2: Attach the moss to your pole.

Tie the string tightly around the top of the dowel or PVC pipe and make a strong knot so that it stays put.

Then, Check your moss if it is already good and soaked, put on your gloves, grab a piece of moss, and wring it out so it’s damp but not wet. The goal is to have a damp moss that is not dripping wet. So, If the moss is dripping everywhere, wring it out again.

Next, spread the moss apart a little so, it will like a flat sheet than a big clump. Then, Wrap the flattened moss section around a section of your pole or stake just under the spot where you tied the string. The goal is to have a thickness of ½ – 1 inch of a layer of moss, so don’t lay it on too thick.

Now it’s time to secure the moss to the pole.

Take the tail of the string you tied to the pole and tightly wrap it around the moss to secure it to the stake or pole. It could be simpler to accomplish this with a single long piece of string rather than several shorter ones.

It’s time to begin encircling your moss with thread! Keep adding moss and wrapping string around it until the pole is mostly covered but leave about a foot of the pole bare at the bottom. It will be much simpler to stake it in your pot as a result!

Step 3: Stake the moss pole.

If you haven’t potted your monstera plant yet, dig a narrow hole in the monstera pot where you won’t disrupt the roots.

Then Carefully stick the stake into the soil until it stands upright. You can add some potting soil to help support it.

That’s it!

Monsteras are beautiful and will provide a fantastic splash of color to your house, but they tend to spread out and quickly take up room. This issue can be solved using moss poles. Because monsteras like to climb, this easy project will encourage them to grow upward out of the pot rather than sideways.

So there you have it! That’s why I think moss poles are the best kind of support for your monstera. If you try this out and it works for you, let me know in the comments. If you’re already doing this and have some tips to share, that would be awesome.

How To Survive, Thrive And Enjoy Your plant during winter

Most likely, if you have a Monstera plant in your home, you already adore its enormous, exquisite leaves. If so, it’s possible that you were sad when the leaves started to wilt up and fall off in the winter. You can keep your Monstera healthy and happy throughout the winter, so don’t worry.

It can be challenging to keep your Monstera content throughout the winter. Thankfully, there’s an easy way to keep your monstera happy and healthy.

Move indoors your monstera plants Before winter comes

Hey there!

Although we know that you adore your Monstera plant, it must be brought indoors for the winter.

We understand that you may be asking, “Why? It’s been doing so well outside!” However, your Monstera could perish if you don’t take care of it over the winter.

If you’re not sure when exactly to move your Monstera inside, here are some signs that indicate it’s time:

-Your plant has stopped growing new leaves or roots

-The leaves on your plant have started turning yellow or brown

-The leaves are beginning to droop over (this means they’re getting too cold)

Change the Soil of the monstera.

It’s time to change the soil in your Monsteras because winter is coming.

The best time to do this is after the plant has stopped growing for the season. This is because root rot brought on by overwatering might result in plant death. Waiting until they develop again in the spring will give you a better chance of repairing any harm done by overwatering throughout the winter.

Trim and Repot your monstera during winter

Winter is a great time to trim and repot your monstera plants!

If you’re looking for a reason to get out of the house this winter, we’ve got one: trimming and repotting your plants.

Although it may seem like a lot of labor, your plants will appreciate it. Trimming helps eliminate dead leaves, increasing the light that reaches your plant’s live components and promoting new growth. Your plant will be able to grow bigger and stronger than ever after repotting. Additionally, it gives them a new beginning so they can prosper in their new residence.

And don’t worry if you’re not sure how to do either of these things—we’ve got instructions on both at https://www.ohiotropics.com/2022/07/11/repotting-monstera-in-winter/ and https://houseplantauthority.com/prune-monstera/!

Use Humidifier

It’s winter! We know you’re all about the monstera. It’s one of the most beautiful plants in existence and a great way to bring a bit of green into your home and it means something else: you need to keep them alive.

But winters can be hard on our monsteras. They need humidity to stay healthy, but that can be hard when the air is so dry. That’s why we recommend using a humidifier during winter for your monstera.

Humidifiers release moisture into the air, which will help keep your plant happy and healthy. You’ll also want to make sure you’re watering it regularly but don’t overdo it! You want just enough water so that there are no dry spots on its leaves or stems, but not too much so there are wet spots either (too much water can cause root rot).

So hopefully you’ve learned a thing or two about winter care for monstera plants. Now go out there and keep those beauties healthy and happy!

WILL MONSTERA PLANT KILL MY CAT?

In this blog, we will discuss if really is monstera toxic to cats or not and how you can keep your cat safe around them.

Monstera is a beautiful tropical plant with large green leaves that grow from its trunk and stems. The monstera plants are grown indoors in many homes and offices, where they can reach heights of up to 10 feet. Some people even grow it outside their house, but this requires more care than just keeping it indoors.

Is Monstera toxic to cats?

The short answer is yes. Most people think that the Monstera deliciosa is poisonous for cats, and this is true. However, there are some things you should know about this plant before deciding whether or not to keep it around your home.

monsterapoisonoustocats.png

First and foremost, cats are not as sensitive to plant toxins as humans are, so it may take longer for a cat to show signs of toxicity. This means that you might not notice anything happening at first, but your cat could develop symptoms later on. The most common signs of toxicity include vomiting and diarrhea.

Secondly, you should know that while some parts of the Monstera plant are toxic and will cause vomiting in cats (the fruit), other parts of the plant (the leaves) can be eaten without any danger of toxicity.

Thirdly, if your cat eats one leaf or two leaves from a Monstera plant it will probably not be enough to cause serious problems or death. You should still watch your cat closely after they have eaten any part of this plant though just in case any side effects come up later on down the road!

What Are The Symptoms Of Poisoning From The Monstera Plant?

If your cat eats part of this plant, she may experience drooling, watering eyes, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy (lack of energy), muscle tremors, and seizures. If your cat has eaten any part of the Monstera plant, it is best to call your veterinarian immediately. He will be able to assess the situation and decide if your cat needs any treatment or if he needs to monitor her symptoms at home until they go away on their own.

How Do I Prevent My Cat From Eating The Monstera Plant?

The best way to prevent your cat from eating any part of the Monstera plant is by keeping them away from it by putting it up high where only humans can reach them – preferably somewhere.
