KNOW WHEN IS THE PERFECT TIME TO WATER YOUR MONSTERA TO AVOID UNDERWATER AND OVERWATER.
You know how wonderful a happy tiny potted monstera, is if you have one just like me. Learning when and how much to water a new monstera plant is one of the first things you should do.
Because underwatering can dry out the monstera plant beyond repair and result in crispy brown leaves while overwatering can create problems like root rot or fungal growth.
When to Water a Monstera
Like many houseplants, monsteras love moderate watering like when the soil feels moist one to two inches below the surface.
If you have a Monstera Plant for the first time, you can discover that it requires more water than that. But don’t panic! Wait till your plant has dried out a little before watering it for the first time. After that, give it a thorough soak approximately every two weeks.
How will you know the right time to water your monstera?
You are on the right blog because I can share with you my experience and knowledge about this.
You know we have three different ways to check if your monstera plant wants to drink
I have a super-easy tip for you if you’ve ever wondered if your monstera plant needs watering or not!
Just press your finger gently into the ground until it is about two knuckles deep. You can postpone watering if the soil feels damp down. It could be time to give your monstera a drink, though, if the air is dry.
Or you can take a wooden stick, such as a chopstick or dowel, and stick it into the soil to determine when to water your monstera. The stick will come out clean if the ground is dry. Your plant is still on the damp side if there are bits of dark dirt adhered to the stick.
Lastly, you can use a moisture meter which is an excellent choice if you’re searching for a less invasive method of inspecting your plant. Most of them will be color-coded to indicate whether the reading is dry or wet, and you can purchase them online. Just place the sensor of a moisture meter into the soil midway between the plant’s base and the side of the pot and halfway down into the pot to use it. You know it’s time to water your monstera when the scale reads about 3.
Placing our monstera plant in the sink or carefully pouring water into a watering can until drainage holes start to emerge is the simplest way to water it. As soon as possible, empty the drainage tray to avoid waterlogging your plant.
That’s it!
Following these instructions will result in a happy, healthy monstera that will be able to last you for years; there is nothing novel and fancy to do.
